6 Resident Directors make up 50% of the Stockfield Community Association (SCA) Board. These 6 Resident Directors are democratically elected by the Community. There is a sense of ownership of the redevelopment and beyond because they actually live here.
All Resident Directors give up their time voluntarily and demonstrate a phenomenal commitment to the community of which they are a part. They are Stockfield’s eyes and ears and are always working for the benefit of the community.
The Association’s primary role is that of a landlord; there are however other opportunities for Resident Directors to work with partners in the Community to fulfil the mission statement of the Association : ‘To work with the residents of the Stockfield Estate to achieve a self-supporting Community living in high quality homes in a pleasant and safe environment’.
The 6 Resident Director posts are opened up for elections every 3 years. All households in the Stockfield area are eligible and you can nominate yourself to be a Resident Director if you live in the Stockfield area but you must be supported by a proposer and seconder, who are also residents of the Stockfield area. You can nominate someone else to be a Local Company Member if they are eligible, but the nomination must be supported by the candidate and a seconder.
If a vacancy should occur before the next Election process takes place the Board of Stockfield Community Association can co-opt residents to serve on the Board until the 3 year election process takes place.
Anyone who satisfies the following criteria may be a candidate:-
- someone who lives in the Stockfield area;
- is aged 18 or over at the date of the elections;
- is not employed by a Local Authority, is not a Councillor, and has not been an employee of the Local Authority or Councillor in the 4 years (before the date of the elections); and
- is the only person in his/her home standing for election. Only one resident from each home in the Stockfield area may be nominated.
There are additional criteria set out in the Association’s constitution which mean that a person may not be admitted as a Company Member/ Director, this includes for example a person who:
- has 3 or more months’ rent arrears outstanding to the Association, which have been outstanding without good reason, for a period of 1 calendar month or more:
- is a party in legal proceedings against the Association or Stockfield Community Association (Subsidiary) Ltd, or has been so in the past 12 calendar months;
- owes any other sums of money to the Association which the Board reasonably believes would prevent that person from fulfilling their duties to the Association;
- is prohibited by law from being a Director; or is disqualified from acting as a charity trustee under the Charities Act.
To ensure a fair representation of the Stockfield Area the Board have decided that there shall be three categories of Local Company Members. Ideally this would be 2 from each category. The categories are:-
CATEGORY 1:- STOCKFIELD LOCAL COMPANY MEMBER/DIRECTOR
A category 1 candidate would live in a property on the Stockfield estate rented from Stockfield Community Association.
CATEGORY 2:- BROMFORD LOCAL COMPANY MEMBER/DIRECTOR
A category 2 candidate would live in property on Stockfield estate rented from Bromford Housing.
CATEGORY 3:- OWNER OCCUPIER LOCAL COMPANY MEMBER/DIRECTOR
A category 3 candidate would have purchased or part purchased a property on the Stockfield estate from either Bromford Housing or Stockfield Community Association (Subsidiary) Limited.
