Birmingham PlayCare Network (BPCN) delivers the scheme ‘Play in Parks’, which provides free outdoor play provision funded by Stockfield Community Association to encourage children to come out and play in their local park.
Since 2016 BPCN have delivered the scheme for a week in the school summer holidays. Children told us they felt happy and healthy, whilst also being able to communicate and socialise with their peers.
Children engage in a wide range of activities including arts and crafts, environmental activities, sports and games and messy play.
The project provides meaningful activities to children, many of whom might otherwise have spent their time watching TV or playing video games.
The feedback from children supports the well documented evidence of the benefits of outdoor play provision in increasing children’s physical health, mental well-being, learning and development.
